faqs about making lpas

  • what is a lasting power of attorney (lpa)?

an lpa is a document that gives another person (or people) the legal power to make decisions for you. you can create an lpa to appoint somebody to deal with your property and financial affairs or to make health and welfare decisions on your behalf.

for more information, read lasting powers of attorney.

  • what’s the difference between an lpa and a gpa?

lpas and gpas are both types of powers of attorney (poas). a general power of attorney (gpa) is a more temporary form of gpa, which is only valid whilst the person to whom it applies is mentally capable. an lpa remains valid even if the person to whom it applies loses their mental capacity.

for more information, read general powers of attorney.

  • why do i need an lpa?

making an lpa gives you peace of mind that someone you trust will make important decisions for you when necessary. there are different kinds of lpa:

    • property and financial affairs lpas - these give your attorney the power to make decisions about financial and property matters. they will only have decision making powers when you want them to, or if you lose mental capacity

    • health and welfare lpas - these give your attorney the power to make decisions about your health and care. they will only have decision making power if you lose mental capacity

  • how much does an lpa cost?

a 2022世界杯32强抽签时间 solicitor can create your health and welfare lpa, property and financial affairs lpa, or both. the fixed fee for these services covers accurately creating your lpa to ensure that it grants your attorney the powers they need to meet your financial and/or health needs.

you also need to pay a fee of £82.00 to register each lpa that you create with the office of the public guardian (opg).
